  I think some clarification is needed here for an appropriate answer. Who is “we” and which of the numerous atrocities currently going on anywhere in the world are “we” not “fighting back” against?

  Because we don’t know who we’re fighting for, what our goals are, who the enemy is, and most importantly wtf are you talking about.

  I think it’s mostly the third. There’s lots of escapism readily and effectively available, btoh practical and ideological.
