Outlook

The 76ers have failed to get past the 2nd round during Embiids career and with a first round loss this year they’ll go into the offseason looking to make upgrades in order to make a better push next year.

The good news for them is that they will go into the offseason with a ton of cap space to make moves. With the only players guaranteed to be on the books being Joel Embiid ($51M), Paul Reed ($8M), and Ricky Council ($2M). Maxey will be a RFA but is almost certainly going to be with the team going forward. That leaves the 76ers with likely around $55M in cap space to either bring in a free agent, trade, or re-sign some of their players.

The big question is if they are able to bring in another star this offseason to pair with Maxey/Embiid. Embiid has perennial health concerns but is great when healthy. Maxey has continued to progress and showed these playoffs he can hit big shots in key games. The 76ers have a rare opportunity this offseason to make a big splash, something they might not have again with this core given new CBA restrictions and Maxey’s cap hit going to increase a ton in the future.
