If they do say “but it’s solar”, then that’s greenwashing. All power consumption has an opportunity cost: that solar could have gone into the grid and offset some coal power, but instead it’s wasted which means more coal usage somewhere else. wasting power isn’t fine just because it was renewable. By that logic we could plug all the solar panels in the world into electric space heaters and waste all the power and that would just be fine since “it’s solar”.
