Teacher doesn’t always give the kids a chance to ask. Sometimes, especially before an assembly, it’s all a big rush and the kid doesn’t know they’re doing anything different until it’s happening and everyone is being herded to the thing, and then they’re lined up in their seats far away from the teacher. It takes an assertive kid to speak up in the middle of all that chaos, and not every kid is assertive. If the teacher is distracted dealing with the emergency of the minute, kid might not get a good chance.
