Comment on What is the difference between roasting and baking, since they are both referring to cooking something in an oven?

Roasting means to cook over a flame. Baking means to cook in an oven.
Then why does my oven have both Bake and Roast settings?

My oven also has broil. No idea.
No. Broiling is where the heart comes from the top, to finish something already cooked on the inside.
