Sometimes… If you showed up in a small class the professor will wonder why you’re there and probably will call security unless you pretend you’re lost. If it’s a lecture hall with a few hundred students you’ll not be noticed as long as the building itself isn’t restricted. :)
If I was the Emperess of the World, I would make all 101 courses free to attend to the public.

Yeah we scheduled our own classes, was first come first serve. The stress of missing one then needing to wait a whole semester is brutal.

Mad. I applied for a course, accepted etc. First day induction given the lecture timetable. only way to miss would be my own fault

It’s not bad, it allows more freedom. You don’t have to graduate in 4 years if you don’t want. If you’re parking part time you can just take 3-4 courses a semester instead of 5 courses and just take your time.
You can also choose different time slots for different courses to fit your life style, like only morning courses or only afternoon courses, no courses on Fridays, etc. (depending on the course popularity and how many are available each semester.

At least in the US, when you are attending a degree program, a lot of times you can pick between several different types of classes to fulfill a specific requirement. And then there are often multiple class times available of some of the larger classes. So you can slightly tailor your education to different interests and your own schedule.
