Do you have to apply to attend a lecture in US college/university?
In the UK I was given a timetable with my lectures and labs already scheduled, I just needed to turn up

Yeah we scheduled our own classes, was first come first serve. The stress of missing one then needing to wait a whole semester is brutal.
Mad. I applied for a course, accepted etc. First day induction given the lecture timetable. only way to miss would be my own fault
Sometimes… If you showed up in a small class the professor will wonder why you’re there and probably will call security unless you pretend you’re lost. If it’s a lecture hall with a few hundred students you’ll not be noticed as long as the building itself isn’t restricted. :)
If I was the Emperess of the World, I would make all 101 courses free to attend to the public.
