Republicans are in a pretty difficult spot.
A sizable chunk of Republican voters are adamantly against abortion, viewing it as murder and thus are unwilling to compromise on it. These people often support other Republican policies, but for many abortion is the ultimate issue. Some of them even oppose many Republican policies (I know a bunch of catholicis. Plenty of anticapitalist Catholics who support better social programs, vote Republican because of abortion. This demographic is why Louisiana gets some anti-abortion Democrats in office.)
To gain moderate voters, they have to alienate the very motivated anti-abortion voters. Alienating a sizable chunk of your voter base many of whom are reliable voters who vote in all elections, to gain new moderate voters, is a risky move.

It genuinely concerns me how many people in the comment section here are calling them sexist rather than knowing that the only reason they support it is because they firmly believe it’s murder

It’s easier to dehumanize and homogenize the opposition than view them as people with real convictions. It happens on both sides, and it’s getting worse and worse as the polarization increases. Driven by the media and the 24 hour news cycle, capitalized on by the DNC and RNC, and keeping everyone fighting amongst ourselves instead of looking too closely at the accelerating wealth gap and banding together by class to restore healthy and competitive capitalism.
