Pet shampoo rage
Trying to find an unscented pet shampoo is near impossible. They all have increasingly elaborate fragrances which are unnecessary and uncomfortable for animals - especially asthmatic ones like mine. Bonus point for essential oils and botanicals that are actually toxic to cats and sometimes also dogs đ Lavender. Tea tree oil. Peppermint. Eucalyptus. Grapefruit oil. Orange oil (basically citrus oils in general). Patchouli, which contains phenols. ALOE VERA. ST JOHNâS WORT. To be fair theyâre mostly for dogs but there isnât much out there Iâd risk using on a cat and some of those ingredients are toxic to dogs as well. I found one unscented option - Dermacare Natural Shampoo - and was about to buy it until I googled Glydant (DMDM hydantoin). Itâs an antimicrobial preservative that releases formaldehyde and was the subject of a lawsuit against Tresemme. Suspected in multiple cases of allergic reactions/dermatitis and hair loss. Itâs not the only formaldehyde releasing preservative but a commonly used one in makeup, shampoo, lube etc. Yeah nah get fucked. Iâm not risking it. I donât feel like dragging my cat to emergency for an asthma attack, allergic reaction, or poisoning because she licked some shonky product off her fur. Hypoallergenic dish soap or pure unscented bar soap it is.

Thanks, that does look much better than the other options I saw. Iâm not familiar with the Kakadu plum but I might order it if I donât keep going with the fragrance free dish soap

Just a thought. Could you use rolled oats in a stocking as a gentle wash for Pushkin?

Unfortunately itâs sticky greasy residue smeared into her fur from her eardrops, so needs some kind of detergent.

What I was thinking is you put oats in a stocking, pour boiling water over them into a bowl, wait for the water to cool then dip cotton balls in and use.
