Wait they haven't removed the word filter yet? I was told that they had, but didn't check.
Comment on We welcome Lemmy Refugees
masterofballs@wolfballs.com 2 years agoI original forked the code to remove the hard coded slur filter. But one of the devs contacted me and said they would remove it and make it configurable .I don't think They want forks so we all contribute to the same code and all benefit. There was a pretty popular fork called hex bear. Still mostly communist and woke folk but it has probably more users than Lemmy and it just fragmented the community.
One of the Devs is nice and practical the other is a little to dogmatic. They are both willing to work with me on improving the code so I will not fork and contribute as long as that is the case.
These are still early days I believe. The tech hasn't really caught on much. I believe it will as all the other solutions don't have a good tech reason to exist.
It integrates with mastodon so you can use wolf balls with mastodon to have a large feed of content.

Ah so it's configurable now? That's dope.
A wordlist filter actually isn't so bad if it's configurable, it can actually be a good thing.

I had white privilege in there as a joke. Took it out eventually. The whole idea is stupid because you can just insert a picture of the banned word or replace A's with @ , E's with 3s and so on.

that is good. i think software should be neutral it should just work well. giving people options is always better.
