Comment on The Odds Are Good When The Goods Are Odd
zeejoo@thelemmy.club 2 days agoWords exist in context. If I called my female boss a bitch because I perceived her as domineering or demanding, that’d be out of line. If I call someone a dumb bitch for running one of the most toxic accounts on social media posting nonsensical disinformation, that’s very different. While I understand that being called a bitch can be very hurtful, I’m not calling you one, I’m calling someone else one, so being offended on their behalf is silly. I’m not gonna censor myself because someone might have a negative association with a word. And before someone says “I’ve heard the same logic applied to the n word” cool well I’m not applying it to the n word, I already don’t say that so I don’t need to censor myself.

Just take the bitch part away and substitute it for something else like retard or the nword and think for a second how the usage of this word can still affect the broader demographic

Bruh. Are you really gonna act like bitch is on the same level of offensiveness as the n word? You’re either being retarded or disingenuous.

“just take bitch out and substitute it with the N word”
The fuck am I missing? You’re directly comparing the use of the word bitch to the use of the n word. Go to therapy.
