Dave@lemmy.nz 2 days agoI encourage the questions (and have had some really cool ones, like why don’t we have two suns, or where did the first person come from) but yes, especially young kids ask questions because they want to hear you talk, and often they are the same one over and over, or don’t make sense, or are asked to delay something else. I mostly only answer the exciting well thought out questions and encourage them to try harder if it’s not a good question (for their age).

That’s a fair approach, I’d say! Though, if they love to hear you talk, and you can spare some time for that, it sounds like a great investment.
But yeah, being quite introverted, I can see it easily crossing the line, too, especially when I’m not up to talking.

My kids are getting older now (oldest is 9) and I allocate time at bed time for talking. They have aged out of random questions but we continue with “question time” that is the last thing before “lying down quiet time” so there’s a good incentive to think of questions to delay sleep 😁
