My dad worked for a machine shop for 30 years and got laid off because as he said “all the work went to China” This was happening all over the state, so they started a program for these guys to learn a new skill. So, my dad took the free money, in his 50s, and went to college. He got a social work degree, and a government job as a Case worker for mentally handicapped adults. He loved it and was so happy he got booted out of the tool shop.
