Azteh@lemmy.world 22 hours agoHow does a toll by plate arrangement work if it can’t read your plate? Where I’m from (not the US) all pay by plate places require you to have signed up for their service with, typically, a credit card, in order to use them.
Are you thinking of toll booths with arms that raise to meet you through only after you pay maybe?
These are just cameras on top of the road that capture every license plate and either charge your account or mail you a bill based on your plate, if you don’t have a valid plate you don’t pay. It’s also illegal to drive without a valid plate so they just try not to get caught I suppose.
The toll gets mailed to the address on file for the registration
