So you’re the type that thinks dancing at No Kings is an effective protest?
Comment on A French small business owner has his video game store looted

I find it amusing that there’s a lot of sympathetic comments on this post putting a face on the consequences of these riots but on the other post showing a police car in a crowd all the comments were proud of the rioters.
I’m all for showing numbers and voicing our concerns but we’re just punching sideways when there’s a riot. I find it sad that people here on Lemmy side with the rioters

I’m the type that doesn’t consider burning down the city I live in and destroying public property is the path to progress. France’s economy is already strained and guess who’ll have to pay to rebuild everything? Hint: It’s not the elites
It might be cathartic to burn down your house because you don’t like your landlord but it doesn’t solve anything

I side with the rioters because rioting creates a capital cost that can not be ignored. Peaceful protests can be ignored and are ignored. Smash windows and burn buildings. After the riot capital has to respond. It’s juvenile to suggest political change can happen with none of the advocates harmed. That’s a fantasy. Revolutions are messy that’s the reality.

Yes, peaceful protests are easy to ignore. But surely there is a balance between “don’t break anything” and “destroy a working class business”.
Maybe destroy public property (the property of those that need to make the change) or the property of the ultra rich (the property of those that made the change necessary).
It’s like arguing that a kid who gets bullied is justified in responding violently, but instead of lashing out at a staff member or the bully, they’re beating up band kids

Go be a riot manager then. Good luck.
