Fun fact, according to other beliefs, you’ve already been through this shit infinitely. Only the YOU in this moment realizes this one.
There isn’t really an effective ‘you’ then is there?
I think, the therefore I am.
But if you only can think about yourself as your ‘current you’ because that’s all you can remember, then that’s the only ‘you’ there is. A soul or whatever that transfers between subsequent lives but retains no memory, is effectively non existent.
