Comment on The children must be taught to hate Disney
Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 1 day agoI thought it was gonna be when I watched episode 1. Adora hates princesses and thinks of herself as a freedom fighter. She’s basically a socialist.
Then she finds out the Horde are evil, and princesses are nice people. So she engages in a bit of lesser evilism and switches from socialism to queer monarchism.
And sure, the show does critique the princess bullshit a little bit, but it does not deconstruct it. The problems with the rule of the princesses are never solved at a systemic level, only an individual level.
It’s the same problem Harry Potter has, where the problems of neoliberalism are explored, but the solutions aren’t. So, at the end of the series, the worse bad guy is defeated, but the systemic injustices remain. Instead of tearing down the system, they put nice people in charge of the system.

Your expectations for kids cartoons are very high. How long do you think it’ll be before Knights Of Guinnevere is on your shit list?

Probably never, since I still love Dana’a previous show. My favourite kids show is Infinity Train.
I will admit that I have high standards, but not that high. I like Ben 10 better than She-Ra. I like Gargoyles better than She-Ra. I like Steven Universe better than She-Ra. I even like Clifford (1994) better then She-Ra.
Clifford has a transphobic joke in it, but the foundational premise doesn’t rely on transphobia. She-Ra is foundationally rotten, it goes down to the essential themes. It’s like Harry Potter.

I know nothing about any of these except harry potter, but i just wanna say that i think that there is no such thing as “too high expectations” for kids shows. If anything, expectations should be way higher than for adult shows because adults already have a more formed understanding of the world while children are much easier to influence by media like this.
