DrSoap@lemmy.world 22 hours agoI was a kid and had some classmates over for a slumber party. Unknown to me, at some point someone cracked open the top to my lava lamp and it somehow dribbled over the top and ruined my PS1. I can’t look at a lava lamp the same again.

Like, they popped the soda cap off the bottle or did they break the glass?

Popped the soda cap top and put the little black lid back on that hides it. My sister and I shared a room and she needed the lamp to sleep so I had it turned on and I think that’s what made it overflow over night. The next morning, I was looking around for the source of this goo all over my console and the lava lamp was sitting on a shelf above the TV,
I checked for cracks and then splashed the whole thing when I picked it up and saw the cap sitting on the shelf right next to the lamp. I wish they had just said and I wouldn’t have turned it on that night. I was a poor kid and me having that console was a big deal at the time. My uncle won it at a poker game and we couldn’t afford to replace it. It was the nicest thing I owned at that time and owned for a while.
I never found out who did it. I’m grown now and got a PS1 for old times sake to emotionally right that childhood wound so I guess it all turned out okay in the end.
