Comment on Mental health professionals rarely allow you to talk about the socioeconomic factors too

It is no coincidence that increased recognition for mental health conditions coincided with the gradual neoliberalization of the metropole; medicalized suicide attributes the injuries of capitalism to the body, not the system.

If the populous were more liberal I think there would be a lot less “injuries of capitalism to the body” or if it were much much more liberal at least there would be a legal avenue to assisted suicide for the elderly and sick.

Bud, Canada has that, it’s called Medical Assistance in Dying and it is literally functions as a eugenics tool since disabled people opt for it because of the insufficient social welfare support for them.
Liberalism is capitalism, BTW, despite colloquial uses of the word “liberal.” MAID was seen as “progressive,” (often synonymous with “liberal”) and its stated principles are not consistent with its function under a liberal system because that system is antithetical to valuing human life.

I think my definition of the word liberal is the classical usage and yours is the colloquial usage, though. Liberal’s bare definition is “an advocate for human rights, freedoms, and liberties as long as those freedoms do not infringe upon the rights of others.” In practice this is not unregulated capitalism because an unregulated capitalism does not respect individual rights, a democratic state must exist to uphold those rights.
Generally, the sort of people I see complaining about LiBruLZ are Tankies: proponents of eastern bloc dictatorships, or Conservatives: proponents of western bloc dictatorships.

Well, that was just about the most liberal dreck I’ve ever seen.
No, I’m using it the way political philosophers use it, which is to refer to a specific system oriented around capitalism and individualism that emerged through European imperialism and settler-colonialism.
Neoliberalism is a useful term if you care about all that intellectual (🤮) nonsense though, which you don’t seem to. Unless of course, you’re about to tell me about some amazing scholarship you read to form this opinion of “yours.” I mean, you know the Latin and everything and that’s like, most of the stuff.
