I turned read receipts off years ago. Texting is not supposed to be an always connected, immediate response, experience. That is what phone calls are for. Also, don’t ever call me. My phone is a time waster/SSH client.

Read reciepts add nothing of value. People just like getting as much info as they can. But this does nothing but add anxiety and pressure to social interactions. I don’t really care if someone has seen a message, what matters is the response anyway. I will wait for other people to respond in their own time and I expect them to wait for me in the same way.
