It’s a weird situation, most insanity pleas are fought with the defense having to prove they were mentally unwell and incapable of being willingly responsible for their actions but because of the lead up to the crime, it’s being handled in reverse.

She killed those kids but doesn’t want to go to jail and pleads not guilty by insanity so she wants to be institutionalized. The plaintiff argues she wasn’t insane and was in control of her actions due to how functional she was till the last minute before the crime would have been possible as she orchestrated the conditions to allow her to commit the murders. It’s an interesting case that’s getting muddled by the publics personnel beliefs and is also being co-opted for political purposes by right-wingers as proof the 19th amendment was a mistake.

It’s insane to see how we even got to this point but it’s being compared to the OJ murders for a reason.
