I’ve been to Nassau.

The Bahamas isn’t cheap, mainly because it is an island chain that needs things shipped to it. Given that a lot of locals work in the tourism business, the wealth isn’t exactly trickling down to everyone. The locals are generally friendly, though, even outside of the tourist areas.

The food is nothing exciting. They have a couple of local dishes, but nothing amazing. A lot of the food served has British or American influences.

The island lives or dies by cruise traffic. A large chunk of the island is only open when a cruise ship is in port. Also, since cruises usually want you back on the ship for dinner, a lot of places close around then.

It is a nice place to stay for an extended weekend, especially if you like the beach.
