I’m not sure it’s ethics so much as survival.
Sure, the predator COULD kill the harmless child, but that wastes time that could be spent hunting actual threats.
Lets see how predator handles the kid AFTER all threats have been eliminated.

Wait…that’s a huge flaw.
So basically the best way to kill preditors is with wooden spears. They won’t see it as being armed, but absolutely it could kill one.
