I interpreted this comic as the tosser saying that America doesn’t need immigrant labour, and that Americans should accept that they should be working those shitty jobs under shitty conditions for shitty pay

Is this comic not reasonable? Immigrants are generally honest and hard-working, as well as more desperate and less secure (without safety networks), so they are willing to work for lower wages. The issue is that people are underpaid; businesses are subsidized by desperation. We need strong unions and we need to integrate immigrants into unions to strengthen labour’s power to demand fair recompense.
That’s what I get from this comic… Is that not the intention?

So I think you’re generally correct about that statement: “illegal” (insert word of choice here) immigrants tend to be willing to work for cheaper for a variety of reasons, including being more desperate, not necessarily needing to pay taxes from cash gigs, etc. As with everything, however, what you do with that and how you frame it is as important as getting the correct information in the first place.
Knowing Stonetoss he’s certainly using it as a reason the US should use military force to abuse those committing non-criminal immigration violations and to militarized their border. So, despite there being some level of truth to the root facts being discussed, I dislike the comic.
If this fact were used to argue for legalizing many immigration pathways to prevent the exploitation of desperate laborers, I’d feel differently. Fuck Stonetoss though.
