I find when I complement a woman's clothing choice, they're appreciative.
"That top is beautiful. And it goes perfectly with your shoes. Was that on purpose?"
"Those dove gray pumps go great with the jeans."

This is not a bad thing, but if a man said those times to me, I would assume that he's gay. Even women aren't that specific when complimenting each other. They let much universally say something more like, "I love your outfit" or "I really like your shirt--where did you get it?"
