Comment on Day 748 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing
MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 week agoI might keep at it. I’ve always wanted to finish one of the many games i’ve started making, and the biggest limiter for me is getting models, so in a way that serves a motivator so i can make them myself (i’ve always struggled working with others which is why i don’t consider it an option).
I’d love to just have it as a general skill too though. It probably sounds tacky but it felt good making something and seeing my friends all enjoy it because they were part of it

I can understand, I have been trying my had at a 2D game, and I never realised how much visual content you need for a game, and if a small 2D game need so much of that, I can only guess how much a 3D game will need.
I think at younger level, while learning, it’s fine to work alone, this gives you a breadth of knowledge and you learn about all the different aspects, but learning to work with others is also a useful skill and one that you should eventually work on.

I think 2D is even harder for me just because I can’t draw to save my life, at least with 3D modeling I can handle the basics and make something.
I have a 2D game I’ve been working on off and on since I was young. Like young young, and what I did was use stock art and photoshop out the background. Unfortunately it was before I understood anything about copyright though and that “Stock art ≠ Free Use”, so I ended up losing all motivation once I understood copyright law. (I really didn’t want to get in trouble for something I couldn’t handle)
Working with others is something I’ve thankfully started to do a little better on. I’ve worked with friends on small local game jams. Not to vent or anything, but I think my biggest issue is just I panic when things aren’t what I thought it would be. So basically I’m a bit of a control freak I suppose. It’s something I’ve been trying to work on

Heh, you at least used stock art, I have known people who used to think copying images from “Google Images” is fine. 😀 People (mostly) know better now though.
As for games, there are tons of free assets available these days, which aren’t best for for releasing a game, but are good enough for prototyping, and even developing rest of the game.
And don’t worry too much about it, we all have our personality quirks that can be beneficial in certain aspects of life but a little annoying in others aspects. Just need to slowly learn the balance.
