You can say things without being an asshole, but

you know also what makes someone a smug asshole? budgeting, eating right, exercising, and all the stuff we all know that are good for us

is just being an asshole for no reason. Nobody said or implied any of those thing, they’re just tilting at windmills because they want to talk shit and don’t like being told they’re talking shit.

They didn’t even initially mention privilege, just “young people,” so being told to tone down the hate is warranted.
