I mean if using UTF-8 a single “character” can be twice the size of that. Depending on what counts as a character it can be even bigger. There’s no way this wouldn’t go **rribly wrong.

GiantRobotTRex@lemmy.today 4 weeks agoI see this all the time in Elden Ring. So many players want the word “Knight” in their name but it just ends up rendering as “K***ht”. Also the substring “ho” comes up a lot and is censored.

Took me a very long time to understand why my go to, Scooter, was being blocked… extra harsh filter catching “cooter” was the culprit. Only discovered because something just * the string so my name was S******
