Comment on Is there a fediverse service that access most fediverse networks?
unknownuserunknownlocation@kbin.earth 4 days agoGood to know about the sorting, that explains why I barely see microblogs. The mixed feed is what I'm generally using, but I only ever see microblogs from kbin.earth and not anywhere else. I've checked to make sure it's set to all instances, as well as all magazines as mbin calls it, but still, only kbin.earth. Even if I just show microblogs. And I don't ever see anything from peertube. So I guess mbin does it, I must be doing something wrong somewhere...

I'm on kbin.earth too and just checked the combined all feed sorting by newest and 6 out of the first 25 posts were microblogs from a mix of mastodon and misskey so they're definitely federating. I'm not sure of any other settings that would prevent them being displayed. @jwr1 do you have any ideas?

I am definitely seeing microblogs from non kbin.earth users on my account, and if you view the global microblog page not logged-in, you can also see it as well. I don't believe there is a setting that would prevent seeing microblog's from federated users (apart from the all/local feed option, which you already said was on all).
Also, here is an example peer tube channel, which you can see video posts federating under: https://kbin.earth/m/thelinuxexperiment_channel@tilvids.com

I checked the global microblogs page, but I'm mostly seeing things posted to random@kbin.earth, with a couple of things posted to some Lemmy instances, but nothing posted to mastodon. Maybe I'm understanding the whole concept wrong? (Or I'm blind?)
But I did look at the Linux Experiment channel - and realized that I have seen their videos in my feed - awesome! And there, it makes sense that not as many of those pop up, since there are way less videos being created than posts made. But I now know that that works - cool! (And now I'm distracted by another of his videos...)

Mastodon (and related platforms) do not have a concept of magazines (communities), but Mbin requires that all posts should be categorized into a magazine, thus, most Mastodon posts you will find within the
