It’s about the fact that there are plenty of jobs that contribute something to society if you’re willing, whether it’s nursing or teaching, or something very different. Nursing is just one example and I’ve already spent too much time on it, since it’s not the point.
It’s easy to complain about how hard something is and only a little less easy to make a change. But people don’t want a little less easy. I was just calling that out, but that message obviously doesn’t earn you any points on Lemmy, QED, but it’s no less true.

It doesn’t matter how willing you are. Nursing schools do not accept just any willing person. When it comes to actually doing the job… it takes a whole lot more than just being willing. The average person CANNOT be a nurse. It’s just a very tone deaf and unrealistic thing to suggest.
Intelligence and emotional ability are not the result of willpower. It’s actually more comparable to being athletic or physically strong. Sure, most people can improve their physical health, but there is a threshold for how strong you’re capable of becoming, determined by genetics and lifestyle. Intelligence and emotional capacity are the same. It’s sort of like you showed open positions for being a bodybuilder or an MMA fighter and then said “see? there are plenty of jobs.” This makes no real-world sense.

Then find entry level fast food jobs and use those as an example. Still really difficult to get those jobs, but it would at least make a small amount of sense.

Why would I? I’ve already disproved the point. And fast food jobs aren’t even beneficial to society. I don’t think I’m the one not making sense.
The point is that people simply like to virtue signal how they would love to work a meaningful job, but they don’t. If they really would they would put in the minimum amount of effort to find that job.
