PhD holders
Medical Doctors sure, but c’mon. Education level is not indicative of any real life skill

I can play 25 different instruments, record and produce music at a professional level, I can direct photography for a motion pictures, write television news copy, code in 5(ish) different languages, mill lumber from raw timber, gut and fillet SO MANY different types of fish, build structure out of earthen building material, I can wire photovoltaic panels in series or parallel and am familiar with both 13v and 24v system, and I can do pretty much anything to a car that doesn’t require a lift or a hoist.
But are any of those special without the little paper that says you can do them?

so why dont you get a trade school diploma for one of those?
should be simple enough if you already have experience
the reason they ask for diplomas is because it’s difficult to prove someones competence if they dont have that piece of paper, unfortunately

Because school is expensive and time-consuming and I’m already working full time to BARELY get by. I love school (well, I love learning, but it’s simply not an option for me at this point in my life. Obviously I’ve looked into it (and have a fair amount of student debt to prove that I’ve tried more than once), but I always have to make the choice between going to school or eating and paying rent, and I usually want to eat and have a place to live.

They give that piece of paper to rapist celebrities like Bill Cosby for no reason than they are famous.

I own a small manufacturing company but god damn the eu acts like they only want major corpos with awful labor practices or poor people that don’t even speak their language to immigrate.
You’re smug now but those corpos will eat your next 💗

Perhaps not. But a PhD is indicative of highly specialized knowledge, like mathematics, engineering, or physics. All knowledge sets that are highly prized by nations around the world.
Waiters need not apply…
MnemonicBump@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 days ago
What is your thing against waiters? Do you believe that they contribute less to society than someone who has a PhD in sociology or some bs?
Bluewing@lemmy.world 1 day ago
I have nothing against waiters. The world needs some waiters. I used them as an example. But yeah, a doctorate in sociology will probably improve humanity to a greater extent than being a waiter. And to be honest, even a doctorate in sociology isn’t at the top of the list like a medical doctor would be.
And when it comes to emigration, countries want the best educated people they can get so they can improve their nation and the people’s lives that live there. Like it or not, waiters, taxi drivers, and cashiers, by and large, are not on the desirable list of professions for Western nations looking for immigrants.

I problem with that is, in many cases, being highly educated probably means you came from money, which usually translates to some of the worst people we could possibly be sending.
