  Was about to say exactly this. Wild seedlings are no less vulnerable than indoor seedlings.
  But you tend to succeed more often when you have 1000s of chances rather than one.

    Which is why it’s recommended you put 2 or 3 seeds per hole on many seeds packets

  Yep, there is a reason a plant expels hundreds of seeds - only a couple survive in the wild.
