Check out Navidrome (server) and Feishin (client). It remembers how many times you have played things and you can also rate the tracks or favorite them then later just play favorites or let it auto DJ. Supports playlists too. Between them they find cover art so you can pick by album cover rather than rummaging about for file names in weirdly named folders. They also find the lyrics and display to help you singalong. VLC is great though for consuming media in odd formats - it will play anything.

Listening to music by opening VLC, going âAdd Directoryâ, and choosing a bunch of albums to queue up. There might be better ways but this is what Iâm used to and nothing beats it.

Iâll look into it. VLC is very straighforward and itâs more force of habit. I want to go back to listening to the actual music files I have so anything that makes that easier is appreciated.

They support .ogg and .flac files too. None of this comressed.mp3 stuff.

The classic adage that âIf VLC canât open it, youâre screwedâ still holds true. I havenât sent them any money but I wonder if they have a marketing team I could become part of, Iâd love to help get the word out more

It can do it all. I was even using it to convert videos recently when I was having compatibility issues with video editors. It wasnât perfectly consistent though
