Comment on About what people are talking to each other nowadays

A few weeks ago, at work, I tried to befriend a new coworker by;
- Apologizing while slightly making an awkward hand gesture
- Introducing myself
- Proposing having a cup of coffee together
- Asking about where they are from
- Asking about their likes and dislikes
- All the while I tried commenting on anything and everything they said in a friendly manner
Everything was going well, until I asked them some question about something trivial that they didn’t know the answer to. I have forgotten what exactly it was, but it should’ve been clear to them, that I’m not looking for a scientifically, empirically or factually correct answer. And then they pick up and burry their face in their phone, starting to “google” stuff. I acted like I had to return to work, because I had lost all will befriend them further.
Chitchat is dead.

Um, or they could be neurodivergent.
I would not have understood that someone didn’t want a factual answer if I was asked a question that had a factual answer. In fact, I get annoyed when people ask me questions they know I don’t know. It has nothing to do with faster access to info.

They could’ve been, in which case it wouldn’t have had to do with faster access to info, and I would’ve been making quite an ableist assumption. But,

Okay but the disability is not being able to understand things that are painfully clear to neurotypical people.

There is no evidence that I could put forth here to prove how the situation, the paralinguistic information therein and my experience with neurodiversity made it clear that I am not dealing with - and therefore unjustly judging - a person on the spectrum, so I’m withdrawing from this thread. 🙏🩷
