  The Bible says you can beat slaves as much as you want as long as they dont immediately die or lose body parts,
  I guess they used rules similar to that, if it’s in the good book it must be good

    You can beat your spouse with a rod so long as the rod is no thicker than your thumb and no longer than your forearm.

  I see “Uterine Derrangement” “Woman Troubles” and “Female Disease”, so yeah, I assume there’s a level of sexual abuse they deemed acceptable.
