So for someone who doesn’t know: is this trophy passed on the time someone wins? You don’t get to keep it and they make a new one?

Yes, it’s the same trophy. There are metal bands where they engrave the names every year. The trophy can only hold about 50 years worth of names, though. When it fills up, they replace the oldest metal band and send it to the Hockey Hall of Fame to make room for new names.

The first time I read this, my brain automatically parsed “metal bands” as musicians. And now I think Gwar should really implement this system to commemorate all of its various lineups.

and it’s tradition that each player gets to spend a day with the cup. because of this, the trophy has gone through some wild rides… someone got drunk and dented it… someone got drunk and left it on the side of the road. Someone baptised tjeir child in it (and i believe the child peed in it)
