That’s not what I’ve heard, people on Reddit have been praising its performance saying it’s close to PS5 performance; but even then, a PS4 Pro level performance for a handheld is pretty good in my books.
I have some questions for whoever's claiming that.
The first party games are fantastic, portability is useful, and it's affordable compared to everything else. But I think anyone expecting power is setting themselves up for disappointment. Buy it if you wanna play first party games and low-spec indies, but be careful with ports. I always have to research ports I'm interested in to double check if they're okay.
Anything comparable in terms of technology that is non-portable usually outperforms their portable counterpart by a lot.
That’s also true for a Switch which consumes up to 20W (while docked and not running on battery), whilst a PS5/XBOX uses up to 350W.
There is absolutely 0 chance that the Switch has better performance unless it’s technology is somehow 18 times more advanced, which is impossible in the span of only 5 years.
And if someone says But it has similar performance…<br> Yeah maybe for 5-10 minutes until it overheats or the battery is empty (that’s also the reason why “Gaming” notebooks will always suck) or because the game running there was better optimized for it.

There are more objective measurements we can use than that. Consider any modern port that shows up on a Switch 2, like FF7 Rebirth, to be a substantial effort and not a given. Even when you do get ports like those, they’re often severely compromised in fidelity and performance.
