HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 hours agoi’d have to ask my wife for specifics, she’s deeper in the Deaf community than i am, but i think it has something to do with being easier to play louder volumes with the speaker too close to your eardrum or cochlea or something. I am not an authoritative source.

that’s the thing, it can sneak up on you, especially if you find yourself suddenly in a loud environment
