You paid $500 for a Switch 1?
Comment on I just saw the Ocarina of Time Remake glimpse at Nintendo Direct 6.9.2026

I bought a Switch, which for a long time I call “My $500 Zelda machine”, as I really only played Breath of the Wild on it.
Now with Factorio and the classic N64 library, I feel better about buying it.
There isn’t anything technically speaking about the Switch 2 I want, as I just got a PS5 and it blows that out of the water.
Shame this isn’t on switch, I’d have liked to play it

I want to say the OLED peaked at $350

The Switch OLED is currently $400, only $50 less than a Switch 2 (until Sept.) That’s an insane price!

$300 something for the system, $60 for the game, not sure how much a pair of pro controllers cost, but I walked out spending close enough to $500 for the point to stand.
US dollars, don’t remember what year I bought it. I’m guessing around 2018, it was shortly after breath of the wild released.

I will not buy a Switch 2, especially for these prices. I wonder what the reason for Switch 2 exclusivity is. Either it is just to have a reason for people to buy the system, or it is truly technical, in which case the ambitions might be even bigger than we think.

This is rumored to be a from the ground up reimagining of OoT, not a touch-up like the 3DS version. It wouldn’t run on the Switch 1.

They could clearly develop it as a cross platform title, like the previous Zelda games in example. The question is, if they want to. I think one factor is, that there is no Switch 2 emulator out there, plus Nintendo tries to sell Switch 2. We have absolutely no way of knowing it couldn’t run on Switch 1, just because its a new game.

True, this is still only rumors, but from the beginning they said that this was going to be a game that takes full advantage of the Switch 2 hardware. Time will tell, but Nintendo hasn’t been shy about releasing cross-platform games if it’s feasible. Much as they hate emulation, I don’t think it holds them back from doing so, as the install base for the Switch 1 is huge and they like making money (not that you’d know from some of their decisions…).
I think this has been planned as a Switch 2 only title from the beginning due to being too advanced for the Switch 1.
