I don’t know much about Freddy Mercury (or even sexuality), but couldn’t it also be possible that he STRONGLY admired her, just not in a sexual or romantic way?
Like, could he be saying something like “if I were into women, I would have married you in a heartbeat”?

He really, absolutely loved her, and he did love her profoundly back. After this, it gets complicated. Maybe she couldn’t bear knowing he was having sex relationships with men. Maybe the issue was the AIDS wave from one or both of their perspectives; Freddy wouldn’t risk her or she wouldn’t risk herself. Maybe she demanded monogamy and he couldn’t give her that. Its complicated.
