If this is what you’re like in real life, i feel like the world would be better without you
Comment on How would you feel if someone said you deserve cancer or to die?
AlvinTheChipmunk@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks agoWhat could I, as a customer, do to make your day brighter?
Fuck him.
Give him all the cancers.

I’m simply respecting your right to free speech. You have the right to say and think, ‘Billionaires deserve to die.’ That’s your First Amendment right, and I respect your right to think it. However, at the exact same time, I 100% also have the right to say, ‘You deserve cancer. I hope your kids get cancer, and if your 5-year-old son dies in a school shooting, he deserves it.’

You have a right to say it, but that doesn’t mean you should say it. And I never said billionaires deserved to die. Like a lot of people in this thread, I just want their wealth redistributed. Telling people their kids deserve to die is dickish behaviour and you ought to stop. You aren’t legally required to stop, but you ought to. People have a right to disassociate with you for this behaviour and they probably should. Thank you for respecting my right to free speech, but doing so doesn’t require you to say dickish things to people
FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
Why? What the fuck did they do to you?
GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
Ah, the “I had to suffer, so everyone else does too” mentality. Now I see why they wished the worst on you.

I have the right to say “some kids deserve painful cancer”
It’s my legal right.
TheMuffinMan@piefed.world 2 weeks ago
Nobody challenged your legal rights.
You are a vile human being.
adespoton@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
Yes, and it’s everyone else’s legal right to both tell you what they think of what you said, and refuse to associate with you.
Laws are in place because of precedent. New precedent is set every day.
Society makes laws, but is greater than its laws. Laws don’t define society, they help enforce it.

Yep, and it’s everyone else’s right to wish it right back at you. I almost wish I believed in hell, because the idea of people who think like that slow-roasting for eternity is comforting. Unfortunately, the cosmos doesn’t usually do justice. That’s a human affectation. May you always find justice.
AlvinTheChipmunk@sopuli.xyz 2 weeks ago
What about your justice though?
What if your kid getting cancer or dying in a school shooting IS your justice?

Your right and your stupidity.

You’re legally allowed to, but that doesn’t mean you should. I’m legally allowed to eat a whole bag of sugar as fast as I can
