    I feel like for everything a spreadsheet CAN do, there’s a more optimised tool that does it better

      An optimised tool might do it better, but that would require taking the time to learn how to use a new tool. A spreadsheet lets you do things quickly with minimal learning curve, and the fact that you end up having to hold everything together with the digital equivalent of string and sticky tape just adds to the charm.
