Ivermectin works primarily by paralyzing and killing parasites, such as worms and mites, by binding to specific glutamate-gated chloride channels in their nerve and muscle cells.
Nothing to do with RNA viruses.

From what I understand, this 2012 study reports that Ivermectin inhibits transport proteins between cytoplasm and the nucleus which atleast some viruses require. I wonder if the glutamate-gated chlorine channels have a similar mechanism that allows Ivermectin to work in both cases. doi.org/10.1042/BJ20120150
