Cool, are you a woman?
Comment on Man on a mission
toastus@feddit.org 3 weeks agoJust so you know, I am not one of the downvotes, but I still strongly disagree with your comment and it rubbed me the wrong way.
The asking for directions “to stay away” is a running joke that (I think) originated in “It’s always sunny in Philadelphia” and neither in the show, nor at any other point does this running joke make fun of the victims, it specifically makes fun of the hypocrisy of the statements.
The late sex workers are not the butt of the joke and so I strongly believe that your disgust is misplaced.

Why does it have to matter?
But no, I am not.

I already knew you weren’t. Could you explain how you think you’re in a position to determine if something is misogynistic? Like, you believe that you can tell women they aren’t harmed by a thing? Why? What are the consequences of this assertion that diminishes the voice of women?

I had hoped for an honest conversation.
This is not that.
I am not interested in defending the strawman you made out of my short comment.

You’re trying to add nuance so this will probably not go over well in this dumpster fire of a comment thread, but you are correct. The butt of the joke is the person asking the questions because they look like a creap/pervert/overly horny. This is a form of self-deprecating humor on part of the original commenter in the screenshot, but apparently the internet is still where humor goes to die.

Sure, but people explicitly use the excuse of “it was just a joke” to cover for bigotry and to (successfully) move the Overton Window right.

This just in: edgy jokes are for conservatives only.
