eureka@aussie.zone 1 day agoIt’s a pretty reasonable long-term goal in many areas, like cities. There are pedestrian-only streets near me already. We just need a long-term vision and the infrastructure to follow it.

You can certainly reduce the presence of cars in certain areas and improve the design of cities to this end. But just saying “ban cars” is idiotic.

Humanity has lived longer without them than with them, and even in present day, there’s still real places with people living in it that bans cars (at least for personal use ones, emergency/service vehicles still allowed)

That’s a ridiculous comparison, that video is about a single neighbourhood. You’d need to completely redesign and rebuild any modern city to function completely without cars.

Not as ridiculous as thinking places with denser population cannot function without the mode of transportation that is less efficient. You just cannot imagine anything else because you have only lived in cities that are designed for cars. Also redesigning can faster than you think, a lot of destinations can get closer together by just changing how zoning laws work and ending parking requirements, no tearing down buildings required.
