Comment on Israel escalates attacks on medics in Lebanon with deadly ‘quadruple tap’

In total, the attacks killed four medics and wounded six more, from three different ambulance corps, according to medical sources. Three of the medics were from the Hezbollah-affiliated IHA and Amal-affiliated medical corps, while one was from the Nabatieh emergency services organisation. Under international law, all medics are protected and are considered non-combatants, regardless of political affiliation.

There are a large number people who work as medics, but are Hezbollah fighters as their second job.

Terrorist militias like Hezbollah and Hamas have few full time fighters. Many have civilian job as well. Keep this in mind for journalists as well.

Hamas and Hezbollah are known to use ambulances to transport weapons and combatants. This is an abuse of protected signs (red cross, red crescent) and an outright warcrime.

Consequently attacking an ambulance filled with weapons and combatants is not a war crime under international humanitarian law.

Hezbollah and Hamas love to present any of their fighters, who was a medic or journalist in their other job as innocent victims. It’s excellent propaganda and a well working strategy to get an extra mile out of perfidy and war crimes.

That said. What happened in this case is unclear. It might have been an Israeli war crime.
