The wildest part to me was the international nurse who was shocked that we cared enough about the mentally ill to put them in prison. She was like “back home if they don’t have family that’s willing to take care of them we just physically kick them out of the city and let them wander off and die.”

As someone who gets to interact with the unhoused daily, we’re not putting the mentally ill in prison because we care but because they are bad for business.
