bearboiblake@pawb.social 4 weeks agoThe closest I have come to a definition is to explain that the political ideology of liberalism is one which puts the greed of the ruling class before the freedoms of the working class. I don’t need to argue about definitions to make that point. We live in a neoliberal world. Look around you - you are forced to work for a living, because of free market economics. You don’t have the ability to just go and live or work anywhere you want. Who has more freedom, you, or billionaires?

I genuinely think a lot of the defensiveness in these comments is actually understandable - people here probably were active online back in the Gamergate era around 2016ish, where “liberals pwned” compilations were popular. I think that people internalized the idea that anti-liberal means anti-progressive.
It was probably partly intentional from the far-right, to secure progressive politics from shifting further left, by making everyone believe that they’re liberals, even when most of them actually are not.
