Given that we’re talking about terabytes of data, it wouldn’t be surprising if the bulk of the files were video used for blackmail, but what doesn’t add up is how friendly they all seem in the emails. You don’t ask the guy blackmailing you when the wildest party is.

I see it as a mutual insurance thing. We probably have something on them too. Doing horrible things together can also be surprisingly bonding.
