It is not, because when he would use his shield to block, it would be sideways. Generally, medieval shields were worn with the arm horizontal behind it. This one has the arm vertically, that makes it very hard to block or the shield would be sideways and partly useless.

That’s probably why the game is so hard. Because the guy doesn’t know how to hold his shield.
